At Big and Tiny 10th Street Preschool, learning is a vibrant, dynamic journey—one that’s driven by curiosity, creativity, and connection. Rooted in our social studies based curriculum, our emergent curriculum encourages children to explore the world with wonder. Each year, we choose a country to study, offering our young learners an immersive experience in global cultures, environments, traditions, food, and art.

This year, our journey took us to India—a country rich in history, color, and celebration.

Throughout the school year, our classrooms came alive with the sights, sounds, and stories of India. Children explored Indian folktales, created Rangoli-inspired art, cooked and tasted traditional foods, learned about the diverse landscapes from the Himalayas to the Ganges, and listened to classical Indian music. These explorations are more than just lessons; they’re deep, hands-on investigations that reflect our children’s questions and interests.

One of the most joyful moments of our year-long journey was our on-campus Holi celebration.

Holi, known as the “Festival of Colors,” is a beloved celebration in India that welcomes spring and symbolizes renewal, unity, and joy. To bring this tradition to life, our preschool hosted a lively Holi event for children and their families. Everyone was invited to wear white and come ready to celebrate in full color—literally!

Families joined us on campus to share traditional Holi treats, including vibrant snacks and sweets from Indian cuisine. Laughter filled the air as we gathered outdoors to toss handfuls of colored powder into the sky and onto each other in the joyful spirit of Holi. The event wasn’t just fun—it was a beautiful expression of the cultural appreciation and community-building that sit at the heart of our program.

This celebration, like so many of our projects, was about more than a single day. It was the culmination of months of inquiry, storytelling, creating, and connecting. As we continue our exploration of India, we look forward to our year-end showcase, where children will share the discoveries and memories they've made—from the festivals they’ve experienced to the art and ideas they've brought to life.

At Big and Tiny 10th Street Preschool, learning is colorful, collaborative, and full of meaning—just like Holi.
